Acupuncture for Fertility Support

Our team of acupuncturists all have experience of working with women and men to improve their fertility naturally and to provide support during IVF and IUI fertility treatment.

Acupuncture can be used very successfully in many cases to address both female and male infertility. The most common issues we see are high FSH levels, irregular menstrual cycles, PCOS, Endometriosis, poor sperm morphology, motility or low sperm count, and increasingly ‘unexplained infertility’ which is thought to be auto immune related.

Clinical studies and research have shown that acupuncture:

• Increases blood flow to the uterus (thickens endometrial lining + aids implantation)
• Increases ovarian blood flow (better ovarian response + more mature follicles)
• Higher live birth rate (prevents early miscarriage)
• Increase male sperm count, motility and morphology
• Reduce stress and promotes relaxation by decreasing the activity of the sympathetic nervous system Helps women with PCOS, endemetriosis, dysmenorrhea, pelvic inflammation
• Regulating the menstrual cycle and reduces pre-menstrual symptoms and pain during the period
• Lessens the side effects from hormone treatments

Acupuncture for IVF support:

Generally we would recommend that you start Acupuncture treatment 1 – 2 months prior to the commencement of the IVF cycle. We would also recommend abdominal Tui na massage for pre- conception at this stage.

Once IVF has commenced the treatment schedule will be based upon your individual needs, generally appointments are weekly. As the embryo transfer gets closer, the frequency of visits may increase. On the day of transfer we schedule two treatments as close to the transfer time as possible, one treatment before and one after.
