Patina Blakeney
DBM AMH, MGNI
Patina is a Medical Herbalist and Iridologist practising in South London and Broadstairs. She gained her Diploma of Herbal Medicine (with High Distinctions) in Sydney, Australia at the Australasian College of Natural Therapies. While in Australia, Patina also studied the Australian Bush Flower Remedies and worked for the local bushcare group as well as a short stint on an organic herb farm in Tasmania. She is a member of the National Herbalists Association of Australia and the Association of Master Herbalists (UK).
Patina has been practicing Iridology since 1993 and considers it fascinating. She has several diplomas due to this fascination. These were received in the UK and she is a member of the Guild of Naturopathic Iridologists (International). Everyone’s eyes are as unique as a fingerprint and what a great asset it is that your health secrets lay in the eyes. This is a science that is still being researched 200 years after its ‘recorded’ discovery with the development of advanced microscopes etc. Interpretating iris signs gives you a deeper understanding of the person. A live iridology analysis for a presenter on BBC Radio 4 was challenging!
She also uses Flower Remedies (and holds the Bush Flower Essence practitioner certificate) as most people need a little emotional support and homeopathic mineral tissue salts which are invaluable for treating any delicate cases such as babies, pregnancy and old age.
Patina’s general practice treats everything from warts to more serious health problems and has included baby clinics. She likes to manufacture some of her own remedies from organic sources and contributes the odd article for the press. “I aim to increase awareness of natural therapies in the UK and to encourage people to take charge of their health”. In the summer of 2001 Patina worked at Weleda making tinctures and gardening. They are an anthroposophical/homeopathic company in Derbyshire.
In 2004, Patina opened her own herbal shop/clinic in Broadstairs, Kent. The shop was in the running for this year’s Best Small Organic Shop (via the Soil Association). The last two years have been busy doing talks in the shop each month on such topics as fertililty, skin & amp; organic cosmetics, IBS and men’s health.
