I’m excited to welcome students to two new Vinyasa Flow classes I’ve created to help revive and energise through the new season.
Yoga has inspired me, given me joy and offered hope through turbulent times. In 2024, after repeated bouts with Covid, I began suffering from a vestibular balance disorder and vestibular migraines. I felt out of balance with the world. My condition made simple physical tasks like walking to the local grocery store or using a computer screen difficult.
I began a long period of rehabilitation which included the help of a neurologist, a vestibular balance therapist and mind-body talking therapy. Although challenging in the beginning, attending regular yoga classes slowly gave me confidence. Six months later, I was once again finding my balance. The highlight of my 2025 was graduating from a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training course at Yoga House in Catford, South London.
Every time I hold Tree Pose and stretch my arms to the sky, I am thankful for yoga. Yoga classes are special moments we can connect, practice and share in this ancient tradition together. Yoga is versatile and adaptable; it can calm our minds and bodies while finding our tapas, our inner fire of strength and determination.
Starting my two new classes at Blackheath Complementary Health Centre, I am inspired by the Abhaya Mudra, a powerful hand gesture in Hinduism and Buddhism, invoking fearlessness, protection and peace. It’s easy to do; raise your right hand with the palm facing outward and fingers pointing up. It can be used in yoga meditation to foster inner calm and courage.
Sending peace to you – Erika
