Yoga Therapy

What is Yoga Therapy?

“We always talk about the body giving us problems – in truth it is often us who gives the body problems.”

Doug Keller

Inherently all yoga is therapeutic, even if this can easily be overlooked in todays culture of self promotion and sound or video bites. Nature has provided us with bodies which in health are well balanced, self contained and almost perfect. However, being a human being in the 21st century jeopardises that precious balance in many ways. The food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and even our thoughts are often compromised and not compatible with our most basic needs.

Often body and mind are at war with each other: External pressures in home environment and work don’t allow us to living our lives to our full potential, viruses and germs constantly attack our bodies and we have moved far away from our true nature. A misaligned mind, body and spirit result in illness, and when ill we need to seek the help of doctors and medication to combat the symptoms.

From there, the logical next step would be to find out what caused the imbalance in the first place, and return to a healthy body mind and spirit for good. Sadly most of us don’t have the time to investigate every headache, stiff neck or persistent cold, and the reach for a quick fix paracetamol is the cure of choice for many. Most people could not imagine that they might have resources in their own bodies to help them heal completely.

Yoga based therapy is used complimentary to Western medicine – it doesn’t, and should not replace conventional medical treatment, but a combination of yoga practices can help to restore body and emotions to full health when illness is present. Yoga based therapy allows you to heal – it is not a cure in itself. The key is observation and alignment: After seeing your body and communicating the findings we can work with a program that is helpful for you as a whole – body mind and spirit. The important thing here is that you need to have the wish to heal. As you shift perception and are willing to make make changes in your life, you will be taught to continue to work independently from the comfort of your own home.
