About me and my therapy practice

As an integrative therapist, I have studied various approaches, which is very helpful in order to identify the best techniques for each client to feel comfortable and make good progress.

Psychodynamic therapy looks for clues from your past to help us to understand together who you are today and why you do the things that you do. This might be looking at your childhood and key figures from the past or it could be looking at events that you have experienced. Once we can understand links you may experience a sense of acceptance or closure. Or there may be things you would like to change. This is something we can work on together.

Cognitive behavioural therapy involves us looking at your thinking habits. We consider how the way that you think affects the way that you feel and the way that you behave. If we identify ‘problem thoughts’ then we can use practical exercises to create a shift in your thinking. CBT can be very useful for anxiety and depression and even for obsessive compulsive disorders.

Person-centred therapy (sometimes called humanistic) is a process we go through to help you to take charge of circumstances. When life throws enough challenge our way we can come to feel disempowered, and we feel we cannot help ourselves, we cannot move forward and we feel lost. At the heart of this approach is the belief that you can help yourself and you do have the tools you need but need some support to reconnect with them. I can help you to re-find this power and support you while you find your feet again.

Existential work involves helping you explore your values and assess where you might like to make adjustments to align your life to your values. Looking at life and death and what’s really important to you. I believe existential work is very useful every 5-10 years as we evolve within ourselves and adapt to the every changing world around us. How we make sense and meaning is really important to our happiness and success in life.

Practice description

Most people from time to time find parts of life very difficult and this can sometimes feel overwhelming. It takes courage to work at understanding the things that are unsettling us. Our past experiences affect the people we become and by working together we can discover why patterns of behaviour exist and introduce new patterns for the future, helping you to live a happier life.

I believe that you have an intrinsic drive to become your ‘best self’. I will help you to explore and understand yourself and your situation whilst supporting you through your challenges.

I have faced my own challenges in life, and successful therapy has helped me both in times of crisis and on an on-going basis for personal development. Although most people seek a therapist in times of difficulty, I believe that in an ideal world everyone would have access to therapy not just in times of crisis but to assist through life’s journey, the ups and the downs. This is because there is so much learning available and a lot to be gained from having a supportive, trustworthy and judgement-free space that you can rely on. My own experience of committing to ongoing therapy regardless of my situation has been life-transforming, positively affecting my relationships with others, my relationship with myself, my prosperity and my personal achievements.
